Bodley Head, 1950
This was another of Allan's English Weltys -- not in good enough condition to have found a buyer, they remained there forever. This one is foxed on the top page edges. The jacket is intact but has two tears on the front panel and a longer tear on the rear. The jacket also has spots of foxing. Like all copies of this book, there is no front free endpaper, which is some pretty sloppy bookmaking.
This is Welty's fifth book, already pretty late in her career as a short story writer. These are not the canonical stories, which also serves to make it less valuable. There are a half-dozen copies online, one of which is only marginally worse than this but is going for only $9. There is a credible copy for $200. Allan was asking $150.
